Are you ready for the first day of class? Before you start teaching your CourseCompass course, you need to:
Your bookstore needs to use the correct ISBN(s) when ordering. For most courses, they can order one or both of the following:
Students also can purchase access online for some courses during online registration. When students purchase access online, they don't need a student access code.
To create a course:
To find your course ID, log in to CourseCompass. On the My CourseCompass page, your course ID appears below the course name in the Courses area.

A course ID looks like lee42976, where Lee is your last name and 42976 is a random five-digit number.
To register and enroll, students should go to the CourseCompass home page and click the Register button under Students. If they need help, students can click the Registration Help button under Students on the CourseCompass home page. Online help is also available during registration.

Order textbooks and student access kits
A student access code is an individual, course-specific, six-word code needed for registration as a CourseCompass student. A student access code is typically packaged in a CourseCompass student access kit. The kit includes a card with a pull-back strip that reveals the code. This code can be redeemed only once—at the moment of registration. The kit also tells students how to register online for CourseCompass and enroll in your course.Your bookstore needs to use the correct ISBN(s) when ordering. For most courses, they can order one or both of the following:
- The textbook bundled with a CourseCompass student access card
- A standalone access code kit
Students also can purchase access online for some courses during online registration. When students purchase access online, they don't need a student access code.
Compare system requirements to your computer setup
Before you start working in CourseCompass, make sure your computer configuration meets or exceeds the minimum system requirements.Create and preview your first course
To create a CourseCompass course, you need to select course materials and enter information about the course.Selecting course materials
Course materials in CourseCompass are publisher-provided content that may include assessments, multimedia, the online version of a textbook (an ebook), or other materials that complement your textbook. The course materials you choose make up a course in CourseCompass.To create a course:
- On the My CourseCompass page, click Create Your First Course.
- Do one of the following:
- Select Search Course Materials; type an author's name, textbook title, or ISBN in the box; and then click Go.
- Select Browse by Discipline; select a discipline for your course in the first drop-down box; select a publisher in the second drop-down box or leave All Publishers selected; and then click Go.
- Review the course materials that match the discipline and publisher you selected.
Note: The course catalog may include several sets of course materials based on the same textbook, with different content options in each set. For example, the catalog may include course materials without an online textbook as well as course materials with an ebook. - Click Select Course Materials next to the course materials you want to use.
Entering the course name, description, and course dates
- Enter the name of the course in the Course Name field.
- Select the enrollment start and end dates, and then select the course start and end dates.
Note: Students cannot access this course after the course end date, although you can change the course end date at a later time. For this reason, you may want to set the course end date a month or so after the last day of classes to allow students time to complete makeup work, or to allow you time to copy course materials you plan to use again. - Click Create Course Now. The Confirmation - Request Received page appears.
CourseCompass creates your course using the set of materials you selected. Creating the course may take as little as an hour or up to one day, depending on the demand at the time. CourseCompass also automatically creates a unique course ID for your course, which typically consists of your last name followed by a five-digit number. - Click print this page to save a copy of your course ID.
Note: You do not need to stay logged in to CourseCompass or connected to the Internet while CourseCompass creates your course. - Now that you have created your first course, you can do one of the following:
- Click Create or Copy Another Course to create another course.
- Click Log Out to exit CourseCompass.
- Click My CourseCompass to investigate the CourseCompass environment.
Previewing your course
- When you receive the email telling you that your course is ready:
- Return to the CourseCompass home page.
- Click Log In.
- Enter your login name and password.
- Click Log In again to enter CourseCompass.
- Click the course title in the Courses area to review, update, and customize its contents.
Note: When you create a course using publisher-provided materials, it is ready to teach—you do not have to make any changes. If you are new to course management systems such as CourseCompass, you can leave the course as is and start teaching right away. For information about customizing your course, see online Help.
Give students the course ID
On the first day of class, give your students the course ID for your CourseCompass course. Students need to provide the course ID when they register online so that CourseCompass can enroll them in the correct course.To find your course ID, log in to CourseCompass.
